Lawsuit Filed over Parking Deck Construction Accident

Lawsuit Filed over Parking Deck Construction Accident

A lawsuit has been filed over a construction accident that resulted in the death of a construction worker two years ago in Normal, Illinois.

Jose Saul Martinez-Juarez, then 24, was working at the construction site of a multi-story parking structure when the accident occurred in 2004.

Three 22,000-pound slabs of concrete fell several stories landing on him and killing him.

The Lawsuit

The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, claims that the defendants improperly handled the concrete slabs and failed to provide the Houston, Texas man with a safe working environment among other things.

Juarez left behind his parents and seven siblings. The lawsuit claims they suffered companionship and financial losses, but the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

The lawsuit was filed on the behalf of Juarez’ family and estate by Lawrence Ruder, a Chicago Lawyer.

He did not comment on why the lawsuit was filed in Cook County instead of where the accident occurred in McLean County.

The suit names multiple companies as defendants, including Farnsworth Group, Transwest Investments Inc., Big Hook Inc., Tri-Partners Building Inc., Consulting Engineers Group Inc., DLVN Inc., Illinois 3 Student Housing, The Consulting Engineers Group Inc., Broeren Russo Construction Inc., and DMC-MGMT, Inc.
