Workers Injured in Elevator Accident

Workers Injured in Elevator Accident

Two food service workers were critically injured last week in an work accident that occurred at Citizens Bank Park.

The Accident

The two men were riding in the elevator when a cart driven by another worker ran into elevator doors on the third level of the stadium.

Officials report the cart opened the doors to the shaft before falling onto an elevator below.

“The door is approximately seven feet wide, and the cart was big enough to hit it and somehow open the door and the cart went through,” says Dominic Verdi, the deputy commissioner of the city Department of Licenses and Inspections.

The Injuries

Fire crews rescued both of the men and they were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

One of the men, who was standing outside of the elevator when the accident happened, suffered from critical head and chest injuries.

The other man, who was inside the elevator, also suffered from head injuries and a broken arm, reported Officer Yolanda Dawkins.

State officials and members of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are still investigating the accident.
