Estate of Late Yankees Pitcher Lidle Sued

Another lawsuit has been filed over an aviation accident that resulted in the death of Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle. The lawsuit, filed earlier this month, is the third to target the Lidle estate.

Stephane Sparta filed the complaint against the estate citing emotional injuries he suffered when Lidle’s plane crashed into the 30 th floor of his apartment building. Sparta, who lives on the 31 st floor, was at home at the time of the crash.

“The crash, the explosion, and the resulting fire and smoke caused by the aircrash of Oct. 11, 2006, caused plaintiff extreme terror and fear for his life,” the court documents state.

The lawsuit alleges that as a result of the crash, Sparta suffered “extensive mental anguish, emotional distress and fear of physical harm.”

Sparta also claims that he was forced to abandon his apartment because of the destruction caused by the crash. He is seeking unspecified damages.

Lidle and his flight instructor Tyler Stranger both died when the plane crashed into the luxury apartment building. The National Transportation Safety Board has not reached any final conclusions as to the cause of the accident.
