Former Carlsbad Resident Files Sexual Abuse Suit

A former resident of Carlsbad, CA, recently filed a sexual abuse suit against a Franciscan brother, the order he belongs to and two local parishes.

The man claims that he was sexually abused by the priest as a teenager in the 1970’s.

Man Claims He is the Victim of Abuse

The plaintiff claims that he was the victim of sexual abuse between 1975 and 1978.

Kerry Guillory, who was a previous brother at the Conventual Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Consolation, the San Jose Catholic Church of Carlsbad and St. Edward Catholic Church of Carlsbad, is named as a defendant.

The plaintiff was reportedly working with the Catholic Youth Organization in Carlsbad when Guillory would reportedly take him on trips to El Paso, Dallas and Houston and force him to share a bed with him.

According to the suit, the molestation and sexual abuse occurred consistently over a two-year period and caused the teen distress and physical harm.

Seeking Compensation

The plaintiff claims that he now suffers from emotional abuse and has trust and relationship issues as a result of the sexual assault.

“The suit gives the victim a chance to gain back his innocence and live a life of dignity,” explains Kevin McGuire.
